The mission of the CAN Foundation is to build sustainable careers for the creative class.

THE SANCTUARY, A TWO PERSON EXHIBITION BY CAN FOUNDATION FIRST PATRON ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE, AUGUST 17- NOVEMBER 17, 2024

‘The Sanctuary’ is a collaboration between artists Tremaine Etheridge and Nadd Harvin exploring the parallels that exist between spirituality and creativity. The artists view the creative process as a means to explore, ground, explain, and enlighten one’s being. Centering around sculptural and mural installations that will evolve over the course of the show to reflect both the artists and the community, the work ultimately serves to create space for creatives and constituents in hopes of building and enriching a sustainable arts ecosystem where the needs of artists, patrons, sponsors, and the larger community are highlighted and served harmoniously. With many opportunities for engagement, the viewing public will be able to interact with and influence the creative process of the artists and see themselves represented in the work.

The CAN Foundation is excited to announce the CANtemporaries Artist Residency.

Visual artists are encouraged to apply for this 3-month developmental residency beginning in December 2024.  During their time in residency artists will be offered studio space, collaboration with fellow artists in residence, exhibition opportunities, critiques and brainstorming sessions, and a one-time $2,000 stipend.

3 artists will be selected for the Winter 2024 CANtemporaries Residency.
The CANTemporaries residency is made possible by a grant awarded to The CAN Foundation by The Newport News Arts Commission.
